Outstanding quality leatherwood honey is produced only in Tasmania. The leatherwood tree traces back to the time of Gondwanaland.
A uniquely flavoured honey of the highest quality it is produced from the World Heritage and wilderness areas of Tasmania. This pure honey is one of the finest quality products in the world.
But it isn’t liquid, or runny. Instead it has been allowed to crystallize, or candy, as all honey eventually does. And then its been carefully, and occasionally stirred to give it the thick, rich texture of candied honey.
Many honey lovers prefer their honey candied; they reckon its easier to use, easier to handle and easier to store. There’s less chance of a mess, or spillage, and compared to liquid honey it is easier to spread with a knife.
These honey’s are produced and packed by R.Stephens, a family operated apairy based at the picturesque Mole Creek who are dedicated to producing quality honey. The family owned business, now in it’s fourth generation has been producing honey for over 90 years. R. Stephens Apiary at Mole Creek was established by the late R. Stephens in 1920, and has progressed from a pre-World War One hobby of a few hives, to a successful apiary business of 2500 hives. Today the thriving business produces ~35% of Tasmania’s honey crop.
